General Dentistry

Regular dental care is the best way to maintain your oral and overall health. When we see you regularly (recommended every 6 months), we are able to identify small issues before they turn in to larger problems that require more aggressive intervention. Good dental hygiene has a strong link to overall health and wellness.

  • Why are Professional Dental Cleanings Important?

The number one reason adults lose teeth is related the health of the gums and bone which surround a tooth. Meeting with a dental hygienist on a scheduled routine basis, along with at home care, will minimize the risk of a lost tooth.

Tartar builds up quickly and will eventually harden into plaque and calculus. This leads to inflammation in your gums and can lead to gum recession and eventually loss of bone.

How Often Should I Schedule Professional Cleanings?

Typically, patients will benefit most from two scheduled cleanings per calendar year. As with other treatment, it is always best to discuss with Dr. Josh or Dr. Diana about a personalized plan that best fits your dental health needs.

If it has been longer than six months since your last cleaning, please call us at 563-355-7884 to schedule an appointment.

  • A child’s oral health care begins before the first tooth ever enters the mouth! Did you know the number one reason a child misses a day of school – tooth pain! This is commonly related to dental decay or infection.

We recommend a child’s first dental visit begin at the age of 1. This visit is a great way to introduce the child to a dental office but more importantly to to discuss proper oral hygiene habits with the parents. These early appointments are utilized with a parent holding the child in a relaxed, ‘all smiles’ environment. We will discuss what to look for in a child’s growing mouth, best at home care instructions and when it’s best to have the child return for regular check-ups.

  • Dental crowns of the past often had metal beneath a porcelain facing. Here at Doyle Family Dentistry we use porcelain and zirconia to best enhance strength and esthetics where you need it most! This helps avoid the dark lines that appear on older crowns and assists in the proper shade matching of the surrounding teeth.

How Long Do Crowns Last? Dental crowns can last 15 years, or longer! This depends mostly on consistent oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups and the proper placement during treatment.

Dental Bridge: A Dental Bridge is all in it’s name – it ‘bridges’ the gap of a missing tooth. While it is important to replace a missing tooth to ensure a normal chewing function, a dental bridge is not the only option to do so.

Crown and Bridge Treatment Coordinating: Dental Crowns and Bridges are typically completed over two appointments. During the first appointment the teeth are prepared and you will leave with a properly fitting temporary crown.

This allows for the best materials to be utilized in the fabrication of your crown or bridge. This is accomplished at a professional Dental Laboratory.

During your second appointment, typically one week later, we will deliver your dental crown or bridge.

Saving cracked or broken teeth: We believe in striving to deliver the most conservative treatment plans possible. This can include saving cracked, broken or fractured teeth. Crowns and Dental Bridges can be utilized for many reasons, and some of them include:

    • To save a cracked or broken tooth

    • To protect a tooth weakened by decay or previously placed large fillings

    • To enhance cosmetics and esthetics

    • To cover a dental implant

    • To replace a missing tooth

  • Used to prevent the spread of tooth decay or correct any cosmetic damage, a filling is just one of the ways our dentists preserve your health. Before placement, we use local anesthesia and make sure the patient is comfortable before beginning the procedure.

Composite Restorations: Also known as “white fillings.” We used the best materials to provide conservative treatment of dental decay or to replace old, worn silver fillings. There are many reasons to use white fillings opposed to silver.
